Our Indian Standard XII board examinations guide is now live and available to view and download in the Publications tab on the Members' Hub page [log-in required]. Numbers of applications from India may rise as a result of the changes introduced in late 2019 to student visas.

This guide provides a comprehensive look at the Indian school leaving qualification, the Standard XII, with a view to helping institutions assess the suitability of Indian students for undergraduate study in the UK.

Due to the wide variation among examination boards in terms of award title, documentation and grading systems, navigating Indian school leaving qualifications and determining suitability for undergraduate study in the UK is by no means straightforward.

The guide contextualises the regulation and structure of the Standard XII and explains the rationale behind UK NARIC's evaluation of the award (referencing examples of curriculum content and examination papers).

The guide provides key information about Standard XII qualifications awarded by the twelve national and state boards most often seen by UK NARIC.

Standard XII commonly refers to the qualification awarded upon completion of senior secondary school (grade 12) in India. It is the basic requirement for entry to university, although entrance examinations are also required for specific subjects and/or by particular Indian institutions. The Standard XII examinations are administered by over 30 boards of higher secondary education, including national boards (often referred to as the 'all India' or 'central' boards) and state boards.
