Common training test established for ski instructors

In March 2019, the European Commission has adopted a delegated act concerning the establishment of a common training test for ski instructors (CTT). The delegated regulation for the CTT intends to facilitate the mobility of ski instructors across the European Union.

Article 49b of Directive 2005/36/EC sets out the conditions for the establishment of a common training test, which must then be submitted to and confirmed by the European Commission. The CTT comparises two tests, one focusing on technical ability and the other focusing on safety-related competences. The CTT will introduce automatic recognition for certain ski instructor qualifications across the Member States where the profession is regulated (to date, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Croatia, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain).

Although the profession of ski instructor is not regulated in the UK, ski instructors are currently able to partake in the CTT and use it when seeking recognition in the Member States where the profession is regulated.
