1. How do I apply for a Statement of Comparability or English Language Assessment?

Online:

Detailed information on our Services and Prices and the various steps on how to apply can be found in the application section.

By Post:

Please submit a covering letter, with all your contact details, and a photocopy of all your academic documentation, including your final transcripts and final certificate to UK NARIC. If you are paying by cheque or postal order, please make this payable to ECCTIS Ltd.

2. What is the difference between a Statement of Comparability and English Language Assessment?

The UK NARIC Statement of Comparability is an officially recognised document that confirms the recognition of an overseas qualification and its comparable level in the UK, irrespective of it being an academic, vocational or professional award. It does not contain any information on the medium of instruction.

The English Language Assessment assesses whether an individual's English language proficiency is equivalent to CEFR level C1, based on completion of an English language test or academic qualifications taught in English. This service comments only on English proficiency and does not include information on the comparable level of the award.

3. How do I apply for the Fast Track Service?

For the English Language Assessment you need to submit a photocopy or scanned version of your final certificate / diploma, transcripts (mark sheets), and a letter from the institution where you studied, confirming that your qualification was taught in English. If these are not in English, you will also need to submit a photocopy or scanned version of a certified English translation.

For the Career Path Report you need to submit a photocopy or scanned version of your final certificate / diploma and transcripts (mark sheets). If these are not in English, you will also need to submit a photocopy or scanned version of a certified English translation. Please note we do not accept original documentation.

8. What is a final certificate?

The final certificate tends to be an elaborate document awarded by your institution or a relevant authority and is presented to you, usually at a graduation ceremony, following the completion of your course.

9. What is a certified translation?

If your documents are not in English, and you do not wish to, or are not eligible to, use our Translation Waiver Scheme, you will need to submit a photocopy of a certified English translation of your documents. A certified translation must be completed by a qualified translator. They would need to sign or stamp the translation and add a declaration to state that they have completed a true and accurate translation of the original document.

Please note that if you apply for the Statement of Comparability with Translation Waiver Scheme you will NOT receive an English translation of the documentation submitted.

10. Can I email the required documents?

Yes, during the online application process, you will be given the opportunity to upload scanned copies of documents electronically. You can also log back into your account after your application has been submitted to upload further documents if necessary.

If your surname has changed through marriage then it is not necessary to submit a copy of your marriage certificate to demonstrate the change of name. Please make your application to UK NARIC using your married name, and submit your documentation in your maiden name.

If your name has changed for any other reason, please submit a copy of the document, for example a deed poll, which shows this change of name.

13. How can I add qualifications to my assessment? Do I have to pay more fees?

If you submit additional qualification(s) within three months of the initial completion of your assessment, we will charge £12.00 + VAT* (£14.40) plus your chosen delivery fee to add these to your Statement of Comparability, provided they have been issued in English, or you are going to enclose a certified English translation when submitting the new qualification(s). Certified English translations are not required where you have previously paid for the Statement of Comparability with Translation Waiver Scheme.

If your request is received three months after the original assessment has been sent, you will need to upload a scanned copy (or submit a photocopy via post) of the relevant qualification(s) to UK NARIC, with the appropriate fee. If the documentation is in English, or you are also submitting a copy of a certified English translation, then the required fee is £46.00 + VAT* (£55.20) plus your chosen delivery fee. If the documentation is in one of the languages included in our Translation Waiver Scheme then the required fee is £76.00 + VAT* (£91.20) plus your chosen delivery fee.

Please submit the required documentation to UK NARIC either online within the User Portal, or by post, stating your enquiry ID number and which service you now require.

Payment can be made either by cheque or postal order, made payable to ECCTIS LIMITED, when submitting the documentation or by telephone using a credit or debit card once all the required documentation has been submitted.

*If you are applying from an address outside of the EU, you are not required to pay VAT.

14. What is the Certificate of Comparability?

This is an additional document which confers no greater authority than the Statement of Comparability already received. Nor does it contain any additional information. It is the same information, in a different format that is designed solely for framing and displaying should you wish to do so. Please note that each Certificate can only contain one qualification and any additional information that is included on your Statement of Comparability will not be included on the Certificate.

15. What is a Medium of Instruction letter?

A Medium of Instruction letter is a document that confirms the language of instruction used throughout your degree programme.

It should be issued by a central administration unit / the registry at your university rather than a lecturer who may have taught you. Typically, they look like this.

16. My employer is asking for NVQ information to be included in my UK NARIC Statement of Comparability. What is this, and can it be added?

NVQ’s are National Vocational Qualifications. They are awarded at levels from 1 to 5 and are placed on the National Qualification Framework alongside vocational and academic awards. NVQ’s reflect the skills and competencies somebody has within a given profession, usually as a result of on the job training and assessment. Very often, in order to help a potential employer to understand how much autonomy or skill a potential employee has, they will ask for the comparable level in terms of NVQ’s. If UK NARIC cannot directly compare your award to an NVQ level, we may be able to include additional information to give a broad assessment of NVQ comparability. Should you require NVQ information, please advise us of this using the “Application Notes” field within the User Portal, or in your covering letter. Please note that this information, if requested within three months of the assessment being issued, will incur a fee of £12.00 + VAT* (£14.40) plus your chosen delivery charge. If your request is received three months after the original assessment has been sent, then the required fee will be £46.00 + VAT* (£55.20) plus your chosen delivery charge.

*If you are applying from an address outside of the EU, you are not required to pay VAT.

17. Will I be able to speak to someone in my language?

Please note that if you apply for our Translation Waiver Scheme there is no guarantee that you will be able to speak to someone in your language about your application. The same also applies to any other queries you may have.
